MEMA Physician Spotlight – Logan Groves PA-C

Why did you decide to become a physician assistant?

While studying Public Health at UNC, the rationale of preventative health resonated with me; however, I found myself more interested and excited about personalized medicine and what it had to offer. Initially, this manifested itself as an interest in nursing until I discovered the PA profession.

Why did you choose Emergency Medicine as your specialty?

During rotations, I found myself enjoying almost every specialty. Each had something to offer, and I particularly loved fast-paced environments, problem-focused visits and the hands-on nature of procedures. For me, Emergency Medicine allowed the broadest exposure to the field of medicine.

Why did you choose to practice with MEMA?

I was fortunate to complete a 5-week rotation with Jonathan Sherrill, PA-C and others from the MEMA group who were great teachers. I noticed that everyone at MEMA was willing to go out of their way to help new providers like myself grow and adjust. This attribute was attractive and something I look for in an employer, so I quickly envisioned myself joining MEMA upon graduation.

Have you received any awards? If so, can you tell us a bit about them?

During school, my peers nominated me for the Phi Alpha National Honor Society, in recognition of high academic achievement, leadership, service, and character.

Why did you choose Wingate University for PA school?

Wingate University offered the ability to be close to family, and my wife worked only 15 minutes from campus, so the proximity was ideal. Additionally, I wanted to remain in Charlotte long-term, so it made sense to leverage Wingate’s great local reputation.

What about Charlotte excites you?

Charlotte’s proximity to the beach and the mountains is ideal, but the biggest perk of living here is family. Both mine and my wife’s family lives in the greater Charlotte area, and we love spending time with them. The best part of all, we get the opportunity to spoil my adorable two-year-old nephew all the time!

What are your interests outside of work?

I am an avid outdoorsman, and there is nothing I love more than spending time outside, exploring new places, and getting lost. I am a big fly-fisher and mountain biker. Most recently, I have taken up archery which has been much fun, and I would like to point out that my wife is a trooper who frequently joins me for these outings.

Recently, we returned from a trip to Kauai which easily landed as our favorite place we’ve visited so far. Specifically, the Na Pali Coast offered truly breathtaking views in the most literal of sense.
