Please tell us which program you chose for your Physician Assistant studies. Why did this program make the top of your list?

I chose the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for my Physician Assistant studies because of its outstanding reputation for producing highly skilled PAs, its North Carolina location, and its dedication to enhancing community health through exceptional patient care, education, and research. Additionally, UNC’s small program size fosters strong connections with faculty and peers, creating a supportive learning environment.

Tell us more about how you came to choose the field of medicine. What about becoming a PA was attractive?

From a young age, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in medicine and make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. Becoming a PA allows me to achieve this goal by entering the medical field more quickly while still serving as a provider.

How did you choose Emergency Medicine as your specialty?

I chose emergency medicine as my specialty because I thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and appreciate the broad range of conditions it encompasses. This field presents unique challenges every day, yet remains incredibly rewarding.

What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day practice?

I enjoy providing patient care while applying evidence-based medicine. My goal is to communicate effectively and build strong rapport with patients, creating a comfortable environment where they feel confident sharing their concerns to improve their health.

What led you to practice with MEMA?

I was interested in MEMA because it is well-established in North Carolina, committed to promoting competent providers practicing evidence-based medicine, and has low turnover rates. MEMA emphasized the importance of treating its employees with care, which played a big role in my decision to practice there.

Has there been one patient, staff member, or caregiver story that has stuck with you?

During my clinical training, one of my preceptors consistently demonstrated compassion and delivered exceptional patient care, regardless of the challenges he faced. He always maintained a broad perspective when treating patients, and I aspire to provide that same level of care as a provider.

What are some of the biggest challenges of your practice for a clinician practicing in the emergency department?

The biggest challenge of practicing in the emergency department is patient volume and balancing high-acuity patients.

Are you a member of any associations, societies, or organizations? Any leadership roles?

I am a member of the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants (NCAPA) and the Pi Alpha Honor Society.

Have you received any awards or been recognized from your peers?

I was chosen as the one per graduating class to be honorarily inducted into the Pi Alpha Honor Society by the University of North Carolina faculty at Chapel Hill Physician Assistant Program based on my educational accomplishments and demonstrated excellence in research, community/professional services, and leadership skills.
