MEMA (Mid-Atlantic Emergency Medical Associates) Physician Assistant Josefina Lorda Taylor proudly became a U.S. citizen on February 14, 2025, taking the oath of allegiance at her naturalization ceremony. This moment marked the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and the support of those who guided her along the way.

Born and raised in Argentina, Josefina’s journey to citizenship was shaped by her dedication to swimming, a sport her pediatrician recommended to help alleviate back pain caused by severe scoliosis. She began training at 11 years old, waking up at 3:30 AM most mornings to pursue her dream. Her commitment led her to compete internationally, representing Argentina at events such as the Junior World Championships and the Youth Olympic Games. In 2015, she moved to the U.S. to swim for Queen’s University in Charlotte, where she became a key member of the team. In 2019, her team was invited to the White House to meet the president.

“I earned a scholarship to the U.S. at 18 but didn’t speak any English,” Josefina shares. “In my first few months, I translated every word from my textbooks. Despite the challenge, I graduated with a 3.8 GPA in biochemistry while serving as captain of the women’s swim team. During that time, reflecting on my experiences with scoliosis growing up, I decided to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant.”

After earning her biochemistry degree from Queen’s University, Josefina completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Gardner-Webb University. She joined MEMA in 2023, bringing with her the same resilience, discipline, and determination that defined her years as a competitive athlete. Her unique journey shaped her ability to thrive in high-pressure situations in the Emergency Department.

Congratulations, Josefina Lorda Taylor, PA-C!
